Amazon Just Turned a Decent Deal Into a No-Brainer (And It’s Prime Day-Perfect)

Amazon Just Turned a Decent Deal Into a No-Brainer (And It’s Prime Day-Perfect)

If you missed our first post on Amazon’s little trick to stretch your points for big savings, don’t panic—we’re back with an even better reason to care. Because Amazon just took a pretty solid deal and made it kind of ridiculous (in the best way).

Let’s rewind real quick. Here’s the deal we told you about:

✅ Amazon was offering up to 40% off, maxing out at $60
✅ All you had to do was apply 1 single American Express Membership Rewards point (or Discover cashback) at checkout
✅ You needed to be targeted for the offer, and you had to register your card with Amazon’s rewards program

We recommended only using the bare minimum number of points—because the value per point on Amazon isn’t great—but the discount made it more than worth it.

Well, guess what? Now it’s even better.

The New (and Improved) Offer:

  • The discount is now 50% off
  • The max savings has been bumped to $80
  • And it’s been extended until the end of July

That’s a full 10% more off and an extra $20 in savings. Just for using one point. Yes, really.

For the product to qualify it must be Sold and Shipped by Amazon

And the timing? Couldn’t be juicier.

Amazon Prime Day is coming. Time to double dip.

This update lands just days before Prime Day, which is basically Amazon’s Super Bowl of sales. That means you can potentially stack your rewards promo on top of Prime Day deals—if you play your cards right (literally).

But before you start panic-adding everything to your cart, let’s talk about a little reality check.

Not every “Prime Day deal” is a real deal

Some Amazon sellers get sneaky. They’ll raise the price right before Prime Day, then mark it down to make it look like a deal. So, while you're thinking “what a steal,” you might just be buying something at its regular price... dressed up in sale clothes.

Here’s how to catch the fakes: Use Honey 🍯

Nope, not the kind you drizzle on toast.

Honey is a free browser extension that shows you the price history of an item on Amazon—up to 120 days back. Once installed and logged in, you’ll see a little box on the product page showing you the truth: whether you're saving big or just getting played.

Here is an example of a Tripod that says it is a "Limited time deal" with 16% off. However, if you click on "4 Price Changes" you can see the price history going back up to 120 days. Below it shows the last 30 days and you can clearly see that the price was increased to then be marked on sale.

How to make the most of this offer:

  1. Check if you’re eligible for the promo here.
  2. Use an eligible American Express card (Membership Rewards or Reward Dollars) or Discover card.
  3. Link your card to Amazon—even better, link multiple cards to improve your chances. (Account > Payments > Add credit/debit card > on right side "Link Your Card")
  4. Activate the offer, but only use one point or one cent worth at checkout. That’s all it takes to unlock the full discount. Set the payment method to the qualifying credit card and set the dollar value in points to .01.
  5. Stack it with legit Prime Day deals (and let Honey help you spot the fakes).

Final Thoughts

This is one of those rare moments when using points on Amazon actually makes sense. Between the boosted discount, extended deadline, and the chaos of Prime Day, now’s the time to use your points for more than just travel.

Whether you're buying new luggage, noise-canceling headphones, or a 5-lb tub of trail mix you’ll definitely regret, don’t forget to check your Amazon account and get that discount.

One point. Big savings. Real deals only.
